Water Be-livers Baptism
Acts 10:47 - Can
any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received
the Holy Ghost as well as we?
1 Peter 3:21 Context
"18 For Christ also
hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to
God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which
also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were
disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days
of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were
saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism
doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of
a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 22 Who is
gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and
powers being made subject unto him."

BLESS THOSE BAPTIST-ED!
WHAT DOES BAPTISM SIGNIFY?
"According to the Bible, baptism is fundamentally a physical sign of a
spiritual reality, and as such functions as an identity marker to identify
those who are members of the New Covenant community, that is Christ's elect
people called the church.
The spiritual reality that baptism pictures is of an inward cleansing work of
the Holy Spirit in the regeneration and conversion of God's elect people. As
Peter explains, baptism is not merely some religious formality that removes
outward dirt; no baptism for the believer reminds us that Jesus has removed our
the guilt we had accrued through our sin. (1 Peter 3:21)
Baptism reminds us that of the inward cleansing and regenerating work of the
Holy Spirit in conversion (Titus 3:4-7). Paul also writes in Colossians 2:11-13 that baptism is the
physical representation of the spiritual circumcision of our hearts. (cf. Ezekiel 36:26-27)
The clearest picture of what baptism signifies is found in Romans 6, wherein
Paul uses baptism to symbolize the believer's death and burial with Christ as
their representative head, and of the believer's spiritual resurrection with
Him from the symbolic grave."
"I would first answer by making the question more precise, because the way
I’d pose the question is “Are we justified before, in, or after baptism? Are we
united to Christ? Do we become one with Christ, and does God become one hundred
percent for us before, in, or after baptism?” Because in the New Testament, the
word saved is used for what happens before, in, and after baptism.
Ephesians 2:8: We “have been saved.”1 Corinthians 1:18: We “are being saved. “Romans:
“Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.”
Being saved happened before, is happening now, and will happen finally in the
future. The word salvation in the New Testament is broad and includes pieces of
salvation. But what’s really being asked is “When did it all start? When was
the first moment of union with Christ — the moment of justification, which is
not a process like sanctification is, but is decisive?”
“If
God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans
8:31). "When did that
start? At what point does God count us a child — not a child of wrath, which we
all are by nature (Ephesians
2:3), but a child of
God, so that from that point on, he is one hundred percent for us, with no
wrath? When did that happen? What was the decisive means that brought it about,
that united us to Christ that justified us? That’s my question. I think that’s
really what they’re asking. I mean, they’re right to be concerned about it.
There are texts that are puzzling."
