Entitled... . Be at peace among yourselves
The second Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians.
Direct References
These are instructions from Paul the Apostle on how the Thessalonians were to "conduct themselves." There were members that were disorderly among them. Some people in biblical Christianity might use this as a means that people should follow their way of biblical organized Christianity. That means Sunday worship instead of Saturday worship but this is not what this is talking about. There are members in Churches today that have problems with disorderly conduct. There are people in Churches today that have problems with sexual fornication's, idolatry & even the prosperity gospel. There are people that come drunk or high or live not according to the gospel which is to live at peace with people especially those whom believe in your particular denominations. To abstain from the pollution of the world. And Worship God hopefully in spirit & truth and love/forgive others. What I find is some of the same cult minded fishing is what some people use as sort of bate-tactic which is unfounded and basically wrong/flawed. The man on the cross being a thief was granted eternal life by Christ himself. He was not asked which day he worships or where he attended nor which forms of biblical Christianity he believe in if any!. It's a personal relationship. You got to remember this was a long long time ago with these Thessalonians. The gospel tells us there are many parts of the body and one part can't tell the other part they are not needed. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Now there are Bible scholars even true believers that are not members of any organized biblical Christianity but they are true believers and probably even saved. As one scholar once said many of the prophets and people written about in the gospel were not members of organized religion at all. See when it's talking about the traditions which is really that they weren't walking according to the instructions of the Apostle. His instructions were to be at peace with others and not disorderly. Not to be idle. This has nothing to do with following the traditions of men nor keeping pagan traditions. Not that I am implying to do so. But there are those in organized biblical Christianity that will make it as Paul is talking about portraying this as what it's saying for believers whom are Christians today. That is a far cry from the truth.
"As a whole, Christians have departed from the pattern laid down in the book of Acts." Did others write about this deviation. yes... New Testament warnings of deviations from the faith. "Furthermore, the Bible indicates that toward the end of the first century, many departed from the faith. As Jude wrote: “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." See HERE God is not the author of confusion as written. 8:55 am June 18, 2020
What is an Ordinance? A piece of legislation enacted by a municipal authority. An authoritative order; a decree. What was against us? The Law. The ten commandments convicted us of our sin. Our sins lead to death. There is life in Christ because he is the flawless unblemished lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Our debt has been paid. This was nailed to the cross. However this does not mean for born again believers/Christians they are now free to conveniently break Gods laws and follow the traditions of men. They may and it will be much more harsh for teachers on the day of Judgment. There are preachers whom do not keep the traditions of men.
The second Epistle of Paul the Apostle the headings are as such:
1.) Patience and faith in persecutions
2.) The mystery of iniquity.
3.) The Lord is faithful and B: Peace by all means.
And here it is below.
2 Thessalonians 3:16-18 King James Version
"16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. 17 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all." Amen.
Now in The second Epistle to the Thessalonians again as I mentioned earlier that there were people in this Church gathering that were walking disorderly. They were Idol. Not doing anything. Someone not working for the cause of the gospel/Christ. It's interesting to note in 2 Thessalonians 5 it is written : "Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer.". The Thessalonians like others we're being persecuted for their beliefs in the Lord.
Now I am looking at 2 Thessalonians 2 which is entitled "It's a mystery of iniquity." We know that iniquity means lawlessness or carelessness. "Now we beseech you brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and by our gathering together on to him." I just wanted you to know that they're gathered in worship and dedication. Many biblical Christians could be gathered in worship in different denominations with different teachings as they truly are. They are told not to be troubled or shaken in mind neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as the day of Christ is at hand. Not by the letter from us. Sometimes Paul and his Council might send them a letter addressing concerns in their church. He is saying let nothing trouble you. Now they are told to let no man trouble them because there will be a falling away before the man of perdition is revealed. A falling away from what? From belief and from following the gospel. Maybe a different religion. They are sort of being told about the Antichrist who exalts himself above God. This is what it's getting at. Because in Thessalonians 2.4 it is written.."Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped so that he asked God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Are there people on Earth right now that do such a thing or have said such a thing? Of course. I've heard that in others teachings beforehand. Its quite obvious.
Paul is saying when he was with them that he told them of such things. How could Paul have known such a thing? The Holy Spirit. Paul did not get his revelation from Men. He got it from Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:12 Christ told the Apostles/Disciples things that were profound as well.
The mystery of iniquity
Now when we go down 2 Thessalonians (2, 8 & 9) it is telling us of such a condition. What is the mystery of iniquity? The man of sin. The lawless man who exalts himself to the place of God. It tells us there in due time that "he" will be taken out of the way. It also tells us in Thessalonians 2:2.8 that the Lord will consume him with his mouth when he comes. Actually with the spirit of his mouth and he shall be destroyed with the brightness of his coming. It tells us that such a man comes with the work of Satan. He sits in a temple showing himself to be God". And he does this with all power and signs & lying wonders. It tells us such is done with deceitfulness and unrighteousness in them that perish because they received not the love of the truth that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion that they should believe a lie. That they might all be damned who believed not the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. You see whoever follows such a man being a person who exalts himself to the place of God and he's worshiped as such... those people are lost and they're not saved. They might all be damned according to the gospel. Harsh words. Warning from God.
Now in 2 Thessalonians 2:13 it is entitled: Called to the obtaining of Christ Glory.
And as it is written... "But we are bound always to give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to Salvation through sanctification of the spirit and belief of the truth. Some people might say this is Calvinism. That they were chosen from the beginning to be saved. What did they believe? What truth did they believe? The gospel today is the 66 books of the King James Bible. In their day they had the old testament but Paul is the New Testament Apostle. "Whereon they were called by God for salvation to the gospel and to obtaining of the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ." They are instructed, "Therefore brethren, stand fast, and hold to that traditions which you have been taught, whether by word or our epistle." What were the traditions? Was it Sunday worship? Did they keep pagan holidays? They were taught about the Lord Jesus Christ and the gospel. That being the Jewish biblical Jesus Christ. Remember Paul was a Jew and he was once a Pharisee. They were taught most likely to abstain from perhaps eating certain foods sacrificed to idols that perhaps defiled them or "not" being at peace among themselves with other members. They were taught to obey the gospel in righteousness. They were taught to obey what is written in the gospel? To hold fast to the truth that Christ is real, risen and the lord being the lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Lots is in the gospel. Just the parables of the lord Jesus Christ alone explain how one is to act accordingly when a person/Christian follow the lord Jesus Christ.
These Thessalonians have been loved by the father as the Apostle Paul says and they have been given everlasting consolation and Good Hope through Grace. That word Grace is a word that requires study as people do abuse it. There is a difference in somebody who abuses grace and is lost or somebody who is a born again Christian believer. Then he/Paul goes on to say..."The lord comfort your hearts and will establish you in every good word and work". They are told Paul & his ministry team have confidence in the Thessalonians that they will do the things they are commanded.
Now looking at 2 Thessalonians 3.
They're told finally to pray for us/all believers that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you/them. They want to be delivered from wicked and unreasonable men for all men have not faith as it is written. (They have been persecuted.) The Lord is faithful who shall establish you/being them and keep you/them from evil. Again remember these Thessalonians were being persecuted as others were in that time period. The Lord directs their hearts onto the love of God. Remember. Christ once said pray that ye enter not into temptation. They could be tempted to do evil to those whom do evil to them. That's not love as you can't repay evil with evil. They have to be steadfast and remain loyal to the cause of Christ. After all he loved us before we loved him as it is written. 1 John 4:19 Now they are told or commanded in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to withdraw themselves as I've spoken about this before earlier in this blog from men who "walk disorderly". Men that fall into temptation and perhaps some of these men could be believers. Perhaps people that pay people back evil for evil especially among them selves. Disorderly people committing acts of violence or sexual misconduct among them. That's not love. Likewise Christ said that his sheep obey him. They know his voice. Paul is saying they labored for the food they have. In other words they didn't steal it so they're chargeable to no man. They are told to follow this example. See because he tells them if there's any that will not work they shall not eat. They can't be lazy. They are told with quietness in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ they work and eat their own bread. And that if any man obey not the word of this epistle and of course he is talking about this Thessalonian group being the Christian Church people/Christians that they are to have no company with such evil doers. That such men ought to be ashamed. The word closes by saying... "Yet count him not as an enemy but admonish him as a brother." This means to warn or reprimand someone firmly."
Now the last part of 2 Thessalonians 2.16 - 18 is entitled "Peace by all means." And as it is written.. "The Lord of Peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token and every epistle so I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all." Amen
